Smt. Monika Mahajan, joined nursing services in Northern Railways in 1995. As a nurse posted in ICU, she has demonstrated exceptional nursing competencies such as diligent monitoring and ability to recognize life threatening situations. Her expertise in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) has saved many lives. She works with high level of dedication and sincerity. Her keen interest to improve her knowledge and professional abilities enabled her to pursue higher education M.Sc. (Nursing) with sponsorship from Railways. She has additional qualification in Mass Communication also.
As a Manager of ICU, she introduced modernization in ICU care. She prepared various nursing protocols and using videos she trained nursing staff to implement those protocols. Her managerial skills in management of ICU and staff motivation and guidance are highly commendable. Her exemplary care to critically ill patients contributed significantly to successful recovery. She is creative and innovative. Through her efforts, she developed a system of students from other institutions to have clinical training in Central Hospital benefiting the hospital, students and patients.
She volunteered services to help the injured passengers at the accident site following the derailment of Kalinga Utkal Express on August 19, 2017, during her sanctioned leave. She stayed whole night at the first aid post helping the injured passengers to minimize their pain and grief. She was also instrumental to organize a vacant surgical ICU functional to accommodate the injured passengers following derailment of Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on September 9, 2002, which caused 119 deaths. She had received appreciation from Northern Railways.
She is an excellent bed side ICU nurse, organizer and manager.
